The joint venture “Thessaloniki City Branding”, consisting of Colibri and BrandExcel, undertook the branding of Thessaloniki as a tourist destination, during the period of office of Mayor Yiannis Boutaris. The city’s message-tagline, “Many stories, one heart” was proposed by Martin Tipping, known for his work on other brand destination projects, and rooted in BrandExcel’s strategic research.
Thessaloniki is a city built by the sea with a rich 2300 year history. It has existed for centuries as a crossroad of cultures and has been home to dozens of nations. The city of today is hospitable, with warm people, a large youth population and optimistic spirit. It has many unique stories to tell, but one vision, one heart for its residents and visitors. The logo is a contemporary mosaic symbolising the past, multiculturalism, the city’s heritage and also hope, extroversion and the vision for the future. Its colours reflect an afternoon walk on its seafront.
